Alexandra’s Reflections
I catch myself undoing my hair from its tie — an unconscious ritual. The loosening of something tight. The unraveling of something held. Just as I seek to unbind myself from the illusion of “put together,” the neatness gives way to something more wild. More honest. More me. It’s not just my hair that’s loosening. It’s the perfectionism, too. The curated edges. The desire to be digestible.
Ever since I claimed my purpose — to design spaces that elicit safety, warmth, and inspiration — I’ve been tracing the throughline of what that actually means. Not just aesthetics. Not even just function. But feeling. When a space makes someone breathe differently, something shifts. They drop in. They become more themselves. And in that becoming, there is healing.
My hope is that when someone lives inside a space I’ve designed — a space attuned to their soul’s resonance — they grow more accustomed to their own full expression. No need to tidy up before the world sees them. No need for the metaphorical ponytail. Just the raw, unfiltered beauty of being. And maybe, over time, they become brave enough to carry that same energy into the streets. To live that way out loud.
I hold a vision, viscerally, of a world where every environment is created with intention. Not merely for commerce, but for connection. Where commerce comes after care. Where the bottom line becomes:
Not “what did we get from them?” but “what did we leave them with?”
This shift requires practice. Over and over. Because we were raised in extraction culture. Trained to measure value by what we take — from each other, from the earth, from our own bodies. But what if we reversed this, what if the revolution is in what we give?
So I ask:
When you create your next post, your next space, your next offer — is it optimized for the algorithm? Or is it the outpouring of your soul?
If we are what we consume, and what we long for is a more harmonic, sacred, and sovereign world — then what could be more rebellious, more radical, than giving others something nutrient-rich? Something textured with truth? Something that leaves them more themselves?
Robyn’s Reflections
I got caught up in leaning more heavily into form than frequency again this week.
As a brand + marketing strategist, my brain goes very quickly from the drop of an idea to full strategic map. Sometimes being a visionary in this way feels like a blessing and a curse – I see the highest potential, the biggest possible outcome… but when I go to take action, I freeze.
I am in a season of rebuilding my business after burning it all down.
The core offers were the easy part (they nearly wrote themselves). But where I’m struggling is rebuilding my social media presence, as well as shifting my personal brand. What I stand for now is what I’ve always stood for – aligning soul, strategy, style; building Soulbrands™ – but the business structure has shifted. And more than that… my identity has shifted.
I’m not the same woman I was when I set out on this entrepreneurial journey. I’ve gone through the fire, almost letting it take me out, but instead surrendering into the transformation it offers. I feel stronger, bolder, more embodied in my message. More confident in the value I provide – not from what I can “do” for others, but from the energy I bring into a room.
But alas, when setting out to rebuild my social media channels this week, I went into planning-perfectionist mode again.
I got overwhelmed with all of the content and original ideas collecting digital dust in my folders and apps, thinking of how many platforms they should/could live on. I took my writing pieces and ran them through AI to break them into more digestible pieces for short-form consumption. I spent hours on Canva designing carousel templates for Instagram.
Important caveat, though: I’m not making myself wrong for any of this. In fact, I think most of this work is good and important and (dare I say) necessary.*
*I am about to publish a piece for my personal Substack, The Light House, about my take on IG – I have mixed feelings about this platform and don’t want to go down that rabbit hole here… yet.
So while these activities are, in and of themselves, entrepreneurial needle-movers, what was missing was the frequency. The soul spark initiated this project, but the brain and doing took over. This is my default operating system I am trying to uninstall: I always say soul first, then strategy – but often I make that leap a little too soon.
So today, I am going to sip my coffee and pull out a notebook and reimagine this project, staying in the soul + frequency space a little longer than normal. I’m going to finally reread the pieces I’ve written, in full. I’m going to bask in my own creative glow.
And then get back to the final step of bringing it to life tangibly.
Soul, then strategy. In equal measure.
Consciously, intentionally, willingly.
The Transcript
[00:00:00] Opening + Intention
Robyn: “We’re live. Welcome to Form + Frequency, where soul meets style and beauty becomes a language of alignment. This is our first live. We did it.”
Alexandra: “Had some technical issues. The internet is not our friend today.”
Robyn: “We breathed through it. And for the future, we’ll have somebody on the production team that can do a quick change for that.”
Alexandra: “So I guess let’s open the portal.”
Robyn: “Yeah, let’s do it. I’m gonna light a candle. Okay—what’s your intention for today? For episode one.”
Alexandra: “The first thing that comes to mind is transparency, honesty—like really just revealing what’s truthful for us. And I hope that that can be mirrored back to the people watching. What’s your intention?”
Robyn: “My intention is that we get to practice bringing our full selves to the world and online, and that that creates a ripple effect for others to do the same—to shine their light.”
Alexandra: “Okay, let’s do this. Wait—we should do a cheers too with our…”
Robyn: “We’re mezcal girlies and it’s five o’clock somewhere. Cheers to us. Cheers to you. Thank you for being here. All our—we keep saying all our fans and followers and we have like three, but I love this.”
Alexandra: “Oh, that’s really nice. Just watch us get progressively more and more relaxed.”
Robyn: “That’s what we want though. That’s actually why I wanted to bring mezcal in, because we keep saying mezcal is medicine.”
Alexandra: “Okay, quick diversion—we can talk about where mezcal came from. Like, the idea of drinking mezcal came to be because we discovered that it was a form used in tradition to bring truth into conversations.”
Robyn: “Yes. That’s part of our opening ceremony as well.”
[00:02:18] The Origin Story
Robyn: “Segueing into the behind-the-scenes story. We kind of touched on it in the prequel, but let’s unpack that a little bit more to give viewers an idea—why the heck did this even start? What did we do exactly, and why do they want to join us on this journey?”
Alexandra: “Yeah, I love that. What are you most excited about and how did the show come to be from your perspective?”
Robyn: “Okay, so I know we have our introduction later, but I feel like we just need to say our names too. I’m Robyn James, founder of Soulbrand Media.”
Alexandra: “I’m Alexandra Lang, founder of Aurum Interiors. And if you listened to the prequel, you’ll probably hear me called Alexa. My besties call me that. You guys can call me that. That’s where I announced my name into the world on the last episode.”
[00:03:16] Authenticity + Hair Story
Robyn: “You know what’s funny? This is such a random diversion, but a few days ago when I washed my hair—I usually do it every three to four days—we had a repairman here all morning and I had a client call. I didn’t have time to shower and blow dry my hair, so I just showed up with wet hair.
It was a longtime client I adore, but I felt unprofessional showing up that way. And then I thought—when we record our first Form and Frequency episode, it means my hair’s going to be curly unless I wash it sooner and do the thing.
But then I caught myself—this is me. Wild, curly hair. This is my authentic self. Why would I fight that or hide it on our first episode, when the whole intention of this is to bring our truest expression forward? This is what we’ve got, folks.”
Alexandra: “Yeah—the Leo.”
Robyn: “Exactly. This is who I am.”
[00:05:03] Why Form + Frequency Exists
Robyn: “The purpose of this show came about really on a whim—a late-night text to you suggesting we do something together.
It also came from where I want to take Soulbrand Media. In 2023, I had this divine moment where God was like, ‘You need to build a media company.’ And I was like, what does that even mean?
Over time I’ve realized—the only thing that’s been certain—is that I’m meant to build a stage. Not just for me, but for other soul-led leaders who I believe should be the new wave of influencers and creators.
So, this has been in my mind for a long time—to have different shows, different types of production, to grow that. But this one? This was spontaneous.
We love each other, we already sit on this couch chatting all day anyway—might as well throw a camera on and invite people into the living room with us.”
[00:06:15] The Blueprint + The Bridge
Robyn: “We came up with the concept using my Soul Blueprint Analyst—a custom GPT that reads your soul blueprint through Human Design, astrology, Gene Keys. I ran both our charts and asked: where do they converge?
And it spat out Form and Frequency.
We were like—okay, yeah, that’s it. Let’s go.
Because both of us are in the design space—I sit in branding, you in interiors—but it’s not about the technicalities. It’s about how we use our homes, our outfits, our brands, our marketing, our expression, our conversations—to transmit the frequency of truth, beauty, and alignment.
That’s the deeper level. Not ‘here’s how to decorate for 2025’—there’s enough of that. Go read Architectural Digest. We’re here to talk about how our soul comes alive through aesthetics, style, branding, tech—whatever else we want.”
[00:07:50] Spark + Signal
Alexandra: “I really want to mention that this discusses how there’s a spark and a signal. You’re the signal and I’m the spark.
Any relationship—friendship, co-hosting, partnership—there’s always a dynamic. The moment I met you, I knew you were destined for a media company. I saw it instantly.
Your signal was trying to get onto the right wavelength, the right radio station.
And for me—it’s in my destiny to be the spark. The one who says, ‘Okay, let’s do it.’”
Robyn: “That’s the Manifesting Generator in you.”
Alexandra: “Yes. I love coming into a project early and igniting it, activating it.
And I don’t think we could’ve started this any earlier—we needed the time to understand ourselves, our shared patterns of perfectionism, and still show up anyway.
Somebody on this frequency is going to get it—and need to hear it.”
[00:09:43] Timeless Design + Truth
Alexandra: “What you and I resonate on is timelessness. Building brands that last, designs that last, clothes you’ll wear for years—not throwaway trends.
We’re entering a time where sustainability and truth have to be at the forefront.
Building a brand that’s true, sustainable. A space that patinas over time and reveals its character.
That’s where Form + Frequency came to be. There’s a bridge between brands and interiors where beauty is at the core of both our purposes.”
Robyn: “That was so good. I love how you said that.”
[00:11:14] Truth as a Mirror
Robyn: “And I think what just clicked for me as you said that—it’s not about us modeling perfection.
What we do with clients and friends is hold up a mirror—reflect their truth, their most beautiful parts—and help them create the form from their frequency.
Create the strategy from their soul.
So this isn’t about being trendy or polished. It’s about exploring together—what’s our frequency, what’s our truth, what do we want to broadcast—and how do we give it form so it can live out in the world cleanly and authentically.”
[00:12:52] Perfectionism + Practice
Robyn: “We both have that Virgo energy—me with Mercury, you rising. A-type perfectionists.
But this practice is good for us. It’s not perfect right now. The internet’s half-down, our mic might not be working, but we’re here.
And I hope this gives others permission to show up imperfectly too—to be witnessed in their expression.”
Alexandra: “Exactly. This is a permission slip.
Someone told me the other day: stay in the uncomfortable. You know how to navigate that.
That’s what we’re doing here—and we’re going to keep staying in the uncomfortable.”
[00:14:26] Astrology + Authentic Expression
Alexandra: “Okay—let me introduce you through my lens.
You have that Leo Sun and Pisces Rising with a Scorpio Moon. The Pisces makes sense—it’s why you’re so intuitive.
And I know this isn’t an astrology podcast, but those archetypes help frame things. They’re language for who we are and how we express.”
Robyn: “Exactly. Astrology and Human Design aren’t prescriptions—they’re frameworks.
And I’ve been working on reclaiming my Leo Sun. That bold, creative, center-stage leader.
For a while, I tucked that away and leaned too far into the Pisces Rising—soft, spiritual, flowy.
Now I’m bringing the Leo back—owning that as part of my authentic expression.”
Alexandra: “To which you’re literally wearing the Pisces pants and Leo top. Perfect outfit.”
Robyn: “I love that.”
[00:16:39] The Lighthouse Archetype
Alexandra: “And your Lighthouse Marketing idea—it’s you. You magnetize people who know they’re here for a deeper purpose but feel out of alignment with how they present themselves.
You can read the signal beneath the surface. Like the iceberg—most people only see the tip, but you see the depth.
I’ve seen you build brands from the foundation up, through tears, through breakthroughs.
You reflect people’s purpose so clearly that they finally see themselves.”
Robyn: “Thank you for saying that. It’s hard to receive sometimes—to believe at a cellular level that my presence matters.
We all carry that ‘not enough’ story. But I’m trying to let it land.”
Alexandra: “I don’t know how people build brands without you. Truly.
You’re not just the website or logo girl—you’re building a home for their soul’s work. Something that lasts.
It’s foundational.”
Robyn: “Thank you. Can I introduce you?”
Alexandra: “Of course.”
[00:20:40] Robyn on Alexandra
Robyn: “You have these two sides—Gemini Sun means duality, but you embody both fully.
You can go deep into emotion and truth—bottomless ocean depths—and then flip to lightness, laughter, dancing. You bring joy and soul equally.
Your Aquarius Moon—that’s your paradigm-shifting side. You won’t rest until you move the collective forward.
And the way you see people—it’s rare. You hold space for truth with so much grace and love.
Everyone needs an Alexandra.”
[00:23:04] Purpose + Interiors
Robyn: “I’m so proud of you for stepping into interiors. You’ve always wanted it, but you hid it—thinking it was frivolous.
But it’s everything. Your home is the one corner of the world you can control.
A place to be yourself, take off the masks, exhale.
Luxury, to me, isn’t labels—it’s sensory harmony. When things feel, smell, sound right.
That’s nervous system safety. That’s sacred space.”
Alexandra: “Thank you. I’m absorbing that.”
[00:25:00] Full Expression + Innovation
Alexandra: “We both struggle to really ingest words of affirmation. But that’s part of this show—learning to wear our whole selves.
We blend the deep thinker, the business leader, the visionary, the frolicker.
Because I want to frolic again.”
Robyn: “Me too. But it’s not easy. The world isn’t designed for women to feel safe being their full selves.”
Alexandra: “Exactly. And my intention for you—for us—is to stay daring. To say the things that make people think.
To innovate. You bridge sacred and tech in a way that makes people feel safe. That’s your gift.”
[00:27:44] The Principles of Beauty
Robyn: “Which is a great segue into what we’ll explore in each episode: the principles of beauty.
How do we bring spaciousness, luxury, and alignment into our soul, our homes, our brands, our rituals?
Each episode will explore one core principle—not just visually, but as a life concept.”
Alexandra: “Let’s list them.”
Robyn: “Okay—twelve foundational principles of beauty:
- Proportion – when things just feel right.
- Rhythm – the cadence that keeps things alive.
- Contrast – the tension that clarifies truth.
- Whitespace – the space that lets beauty breathe.
- Texture – the tactile truth of a moment.
- Line – direction that defines a story.
- Symmetry – balance and equilibrium.
- Color – harmony and mood made visible.
- Flow – invisible ease that connects the parts.
- Depth – layered meaning that invites presence.
- Light – illumination that alters perception.
- Integrity – when the form matches the truth.
[00:30:58] Texture + Nature
Alexandra: “When you think about texture—everything that inspires us comes from nature.
In a forest, you feel bark, leaves, moss, air—all different, all perfect.
People are afraid of texture, in homes or outfits. But beauty lives in variation.”
Robyn: “Even the texture in our souls—the gritty, emotional, silly—it’s all part of us.”
[00:32:10] Segments + Flow
Robyn: “So that’s our structure. We’ll have recurring segments:
- Truth vs. Trends — our take on what’s authentic vs. fleeting.
- Design Therapy — audience questions on brand or interiors.
- Current Obsessions — what we’re loving now.”
[00:33:06] Current Obsessions
Robyn: “Okay—current obsession: Wonder Valley.
They’re known for olive oil, but they use it in skincare and hair care. I’ve been searching for a clean shampoo since Playa Beauty closed, and this one—so far—is heaven.
The branding hooked me. I’m a sucker for beautiful packaging that signals intention.”
Alexandra: “Same. People underestimate how much branding matters—it’s energetic.”
Robyn: “Exactly. Humans judge by design. That’s why it matters.”
[00:36:50] Alexandra’s Picks
Alexandra: “If we’re talking beauty—Merit. I’m a devotee. Clean, effortless, toxin-free.
It’s makeup made easy—and made for women with full lives. The highlighter, the contour, the brush—it’s bulletproof.”
Robyn: “You’re glowing.”
Alexandra: “Thank you. Could be the mezcal too.”
Robyn: “Maybe both.”
Alexandra: “And skincare—OM Organics, from Invermere, BC. Their moisturizer and scent are divine. Canadian-made, small business, and the packaging is beautiful.”
Robyn: “I almost bought their cleanser! I’ll try it next.”
Alexandra: “Do it. And also—get in the sauna. Seriously.
I studied medical aesthetics in my early twenties—collagen drops after twenty-five. The sauna boosts it. Sweat it out. Detox. You’ll glow.”
Robyn: “I need to get back into that habit.”
[00:40:26] Reflection Prompt
Robyn: “Okay—closing the portal.
Our reflection prompt for today:
Where in your life are you prioritizing form over frequency—and where could you start to let your truth lead?
Where are you choosing something trendy but not true?
An outfit, a color, a strategy that looks right but doesn’t feel right?”
Alexandra: “So good. This is our journaling prompt too.
Stay in the uncomfortable—because that’s where alignment reveals itself.”
[00:42:10] Outro
Robyn: “We’ll be live every two weeks—Thursdays, 3 p.m. MST.
Next episode: Proportion.
Find us on Substack—that feels like our most authentic home. Subscribe, like, comment—we want to hear from you.”
Alexandra: “Anything else?”
Robyn: “Just gratitude. And excitement.”
Alexandra: “Me too. I’m already ready for Thursday.”
Robyn: “Thanks everyone for tuning in. We’ll see you next time.”
